If you want to remove spam get Thunderbird and set-up custom mail filters. I get well over 200 spam emails daily but I see maybe 1 or 2.
I just set it up so that any email with the words Viagra sex boobs casino gamble pharmacy medicine ..... etc etc Get sent straight to my spam box, then I set a filter saying that anything in my spam box with the words: forex trading ......... etc etc get highlighted green. So going through my spam box if somebody emails me saying viagra (or any other spam word) and Forex in the same email the email would be green and I could see if it is legitimate. I have about 180 spam keywords, when I get spam that passes through the filter I look for some keywords and add them to the spam list. Usually its something like 'v1agra' (they change the 'i' to a '1'). I see about 1% of the spam I receive which I can live with.

Another option would be to check with your IP provider. Sometimes they will offer a service that will scrub your mail before it hits your mailbox. If your IP provider does not do this for you then buy a domain name and have it hosted by a company that will provide a service for you at the server level. There are many that do this. I own my own domain for the purposes of never having to change my email no matter where my internet service comes from. I use doteasy.com (they are a small company in Canada), but I'm sure huge companies like inmotion hosting, bluehost, lunarpages, etc. will filter spam for you. There is a small fee involved but it is worth it. I use Thunderbird and use the filtering system, but I was still frustrated as I waited for all the penis and stock spam to download. Now I see maybe 2 or 3 spam a day that get through and those are then picked up by Thunderbird as my last line of defense. For me, paying the couple bucks a month for the scrubber service at the server level was money well spent.
